ChatGPT introduces a study mode

Ana sayfa / News

OpenAI has added a new study-focused feature to the ChatGPT platform. This mode, called “Study Mode,” aims to ensure students not only arrive at the correct answer but also develop a deep understanding of the topics.

The new system uses a question-and-answer format to assess student knowledge, and in some cases, it refuses to provide direct answers unless the student has sufficiently engaged with the topic.

Study Mode is available to all Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plan users who log in to ChatGPT as of Tuesday, July 29th. OpenAI plans to include this feature in the Edu package, available to schools through volume licensing in the coming weeks. Edu subscriptions consist of institutional plans provided by educational institutions to large student groups.

ChatGPT’s new learning mode redefines the platform’s role in education. Previously criticized in various countries for negatively impacting students’ thinking skills and even banned in some schools, ChatGPT now takes on a teaching role.

In Turkey, education experts remain cautious about the use of such tools in education. In contrast, it’s known that in China, AI-powered technologies are openly encouraged for student use, and even mandated in some regions.

The new feature is currently only available optionally. This means no teacher or parent can mandate this mode for students. However, it’s been suggested that tools that allow for more controlled use of Study Mode may be introduced in the future. For now, the effectiveness of the learning process depends directly on the student’s desire and motivation to participate.
